Why choose me?

I'll give you an experience that is authentic to you, with your personal preferences carefully considered as we plan an amazing day together. You can look forward to artistic and emotive images, each hand-edited with great care and attention to detail, along with a wonderful customer service experience. But hey, don’t take my word for it.  Head on over and check out some Raves and Reviews to find out what your friends are saying about their experience.

Why is good photography so expensive?

Working as a professional photographer is an expensive endeavor. Current camera bodies and lenses cost several thousand dollars and this equipment has to be replaced every two to three years. Website and gallery services include monthly and/or yearly fees. Professional editing programs are costly, and an average of 5 to 10 hours per session is spent post processing images. An average of 15 to 20 hours per week is spent handling inquiries, client questions, and marketing. Continuing education for photographers also carries a heavy price tag, with an average of $1500+ per work shop, not including traveling expenses. Additionally, as self-employed professionals, photographers pay an average of 30% of their income in taxes. Finally, it's important to remember you are hiring a photographer for their talent, as an artist. Photography is much like a tattoo: it lasts a lifetime and you get what you pay for. Consider this: In 30 years, the professional portraits of your children will probably be one of your most valuable possessions. If that’s not worth more than $200, what is?

Do I need to pay a deposit?

Because reserving your session requires me to turn away other business on that day, I require a non-refundable retainer fee to reserve your session date. This is applied to your package cost, with the remainder of your balance due at or before the time of your session.

Should I bring props to my session?

Typically, no. Most props are quite a distraction during a session. While certain pieces of furniture, such as a spunky chair or love-seat, or specialty clothing items, such as a maternity gown, are perfectly acceptable, other items such as frames, mirrors, or signs are best left at home. I pride myself on creating beautiful images using you, rather than a physical object.

Where will the session take place?

Together, we will determine the best location for your session, choosing from multiple locations available in and around Billings, ranging from urban to woodsy.

What should we wear to the session?

While this will vary from session to session, there are some general rules that can be followed.

  • Avoid neon and bright colors. Rich, earthy tones and soft, creamy neutrals  photograph much better, and won't leave color casts on the skin. Avoid busy patterns, including plaid.*
  • Do not wear the same color as the other participant(s) in your session, as this can cause bodies to blend together in the images. It's best to choose outfits that compliment one another, rather than outfits that match identically.*
  • Avoid clothing with any noticeable logos.*
  • Think layers and textures as these will add a bit of contrast and visual interest to your session.*
  • Don't be afraid to accessorize! A statement necklace, floral crown, or a chunky bracelet might be just the touch your outfit(s) need.*

Remember, the clothing you choose will play a big role in the style and feel of the session so have fun, choose pieces you really love, and that make you feel and look fantastic.

When will I see my images?

Session galleries are available 1 to 2 weeks following your session date. Event and wedding galleries are available 4 to 6 weeks following your event date.

How long do I have to view my online gallery?

Online galleries are active for 21 days.

Will I see every image you took at my session?

I do not deliver every image taken at the session. Without fail, there will be duplicates and/or less than flattering images taken at your session. These are immediately deleted. I choose the best images from your session and hand edit each one, with great care and attention to detail. You are presented with an online gallery of these final images.

Can I see unedited images from my session?

No, I do not share unedited images with clients. This can be compared to sharing unfinished artwork.
